20 May 2011 - Meeting with the Ambassador in Berne
FASC President Bob Howis and archivist Anitra Green took an early opportunity of visiting FASC’s patron, the British Ambassador, in Berne. HM Ambassador Sarah Gillett received them in her office at the embassy in a relaxed atmosphere, and Bob was able to explain once again the importance of FASC’s work in encouraging the integration of English and English-speaking people in Switzerland. There are clubs of every description in FASC, some with mostly Swiss members, some more international, others more family oriented and yet others with more cultural interests, but all with the common aim of getting English and Swiss people together for friendship and fun.
Sarah Gillett, who’s now been in Switzerland for about 18 months and loves it here, is full of appreciation for what FASC stands for, and says she looks forward to meeting us at council meetings and perhaps a FASC weekend – or least send a delegate if she can’t come herself. But she also had a more serious message to deliver, which concerns the restructuring of consular services in Switzerland with the closure of honorary consulates. You can read more about it under “Latest News”.
This was a highly useful first meeting, and we look forward to seeing more of our delightful lady Ambassador – the first ever in Switzerland.
